An image can introduce an idea, explain a subject or demonstrate what a business delivers. These are different roles. When using AI for visual creation, starting with the role helps avoid covers that look attractive alone but add little once placed on the website.
OpenAI image tools support generating and editing images from instructions. This article does not offer a command formula or compare models. It focuses on the editorial process: deciding what to show, evaluating the result and preparing the file for a real page.
Define the message before describing the scene
Consider an article about organizing a company website. A robot beside a computer communicates technology broadly but says little about that subject. Modules finding an orderly arrangement may better represent structure and clarity without pretending to be a project screenshot.
Write one sentence about what the image should help people understand. Then choose a visual metaphor and remove objects that do not contribute. For a service page, also ask whether a genuine portfolio screenshot would be more informative. Not every visual need calls for a generated image.
Guide composition, context and boundaries
A request can combine subject, composition, lighting, colours and destination. For example: “Horizontal editorial illustration about page organization, connected geometric modules, brand palette, one central object and open space on the left for the layout. No words, logos or fictional interface.”
Destination matters. The same artwork may appear as a large cover and a small card; important elements need to survive cropping. If the design places text over the image, test contrast using the actual content. Do not let apparently empty space become an area that is difficult to read.
Update: Images 2.6
On 4 November 2026, OpenAI introduced Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex and the API. The announcement includes GIF creation and, in the API, markup-guided editing and SVG exports. For a website, these are additional formats to evaluate. Each result still needs review for meaning, cropping and file size; animation should serve a clear purpose on the page.
Review meaning as well as finish
Consider what claims the image appears to make. A fictional shop, a person in uniform or a results dashboard may be interpreted as records of the business. If they do not match reality, choose a clearly conceptual representation. Preserve genuine material for products, team members and project cases.
Check details that change meaning: disconnected objects, ambiguous symbols, unsupported numbers and distorted words. Editing can help revise an area, but the decision remains editorial. A more polished version should not be approved if it communicates inaccurate information.
- Does the artwork relate to the specific content subject?
- Could it be confused with evidence or an actual record?
- Does the main element remain recognizable in a thumbnail?
Give every image a role on the page
A page with several equally strong images can lose hierarchy. Reserve emphasis for what guides reading and give supporting images a quieter presence. Series covers may share materials and lighting without repeating the same composition. The collection should be recognizable while distinguishing its subjects.
Review images alongside the heading, summary and neighbouring cards. If two covers suggest the same topic, change one visual idea. This helps visitors choose content without relying entirely on colour or position within the list.
Finish for the browser and future maintenance
Prepare the size, crop and format appropriate to the project. Check file weight and sharpness after placing the image on the page. Define alternative text according to purpose: explain meaningful information where it exists, or avoid adding a repetitive description to decoration.
Keep the selected version, request and authorization for any references used. At MissaciWeb, visual direction supports the business presentation, whether on a landing page, company website or online store. Images help when they reinforce that story while leaving room for genuine content, clear navigation and accessible contact.

A checklist to take away
- Define the image’s role on the page.
- Describe composition and use as well as subject.
- Remove false evidence and incoherent details.
- Check hierarchy and differentiation across the collection.
- Prepare the file, crop and alternative text.
